Abstract
This case study is about an eleven-year-old boy, a fourth grade elementary school student, who has an inhibited tendency physically and psychologically. His encopresis which started in his early childhood became worse after he entered the elementary school. He became angry easily at home and he often let his mind wander at school. His teacher
often said that he was unmotivated and hardly made eye contact with her. His parents requested a play therapy for him since he had no motivation in studying and showed a high level of concentration only when playing his favorite games. Over a year, the therapy was focused on understanding the child¡¯s inhibited characteristics and letting off his frustration through a child-centered play therapy. After the second half of the sessions, cognitive therapies on his concentration and motivation and a program for social competence were administered based on the child¡¯s emotional stability. In the beginning, he was uncomfortable about seeking through the playroom, leading plays, and showing his emotions. However, his inhibited traits were gradually reduced through construction plays and he started to express how he felt. Moreover, his encopresis was naturally diminished.
